Which is better for you: Hybrid, Diesel or Electric?

According to Richard Russell, car technology is improving fuel efficiency on new vehicles by managing the internal combustion engine, and this means having even more selection when leasing a vehicle in Canada and looking for the best way to save on money at the gas pump. As technology improves, vehicle fuel efficiency will be standard across all makes and models, but for today’s consumer, some solid research still needs to be done so you can be confident that you’ve found both the vehicle model and fuel structure that best suit you.

Many of our eco-conscious consumers take a look at hybrid, diesel or electric vehicles as part of their search, but it can sometimes be hard to evaluate whether paying more for a hybrid, for example, will lead to long-term cost savings as this all depends on how often you drive, whether you do a lot of Toronto city driving or mainly highway commuting across Southern Ontario and how long you expect to keep the vehicle, as repair costs to hybrid technology can be more expensive than traditional fuel models.

In future years, “twin-ups” such as Volkswagen’s diesel electric hybrid city car will become more than just concept vehicles but if you are looking to compare specifics, Time Magazine has recently developed a detailed guide to today’s best diesel, electric and hybrid cars, which outlines the pros and cons of the latest available models. Ultimately, each type of vehicle offers benefits depending on your lifestyle and driving needs and having a good idea of how the car will be used will be the biggest guide to making the best selection for an eco-friendly vehicle.

Here at Somerville Auto, a growing number of our customers are investing in vehicles that deliver on the technologies of the future and we are excited to partner with them to help them source and finance an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuel options.
