Buying a Car With a Manual Transmission? A Few Things to Consider.

By: Brenden Somerville   |   06 Feb 2014

Toronto newspapers have forecasted the end of the manual transmission, with Young Driver’s decrease in their Toronto’s fleet to only one manual car. Don’t let this news mislead you. Based on the steady demand for the classic stick shift that we are seeing here at Somerville Auto, we don’t think the standard transmission is going anywhere any time soon.

You may want to keep in mind that with a manual transmission, your vehicle is likely to be slightly better on its fuel economy. Manual fanatics will also argue that they offer a much more enjoyable drive. Maintenance tends to be easier on a manual transmission and the fluid doesn’t require changing as frequently as with a standard transmission. You can usually save a bit of money on a new manual vehicle, but keep in mind that it can be harder to sell if you’re looking to trade it in down the road.

Because we stock our previously-owned vehicles inventory from select sources, like the manufacturer or through well-maintained, mint-condition previous rentals, many of our used vehicles are automatic transmission. However, if you give us a heads up that you are looking for a gently-used manual transmission, we can certainly keep an eye out for a vehicle that meets your request.

In terms of purchasing a new car with a manual transmission, there are many great options on the market, and our customers who prefer this to an automatic transmission rely on us to help them select the best model for them. There are even some select vehicles that offer the choice to maneuver between manual and automatic transmission at your convenience. Take, for example, the 2013 Ford Mustang, which carries a six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission, bring you the best of both worlds.

Talk to one of our customer service agents here at Somerville Auto to explore the range of options available to our clients who prefer driving a vehicle with manual transmission. We are here to help and look forward to the opportunity of serving your needs.
