Which Vehicles are Made in Ontario?

By: Brenden Somerville   |   12 Mar 2014

Would you have ever guessed that your Camaro was assembled in Oshawa or that the popular Dodge Charger hails from Brampton? With Toronto’s “buy local” movement in full force, it may come as a surprise that it’s not just your farmer’s market kale and garlic that are products of Ontario--your car might also be home grown. Here in Ontario, five automakers are proud to have Canadian car manufacturing plants: General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota and Honda. Ontario is the largest car producing district in North America, with assembly plants in all of the following cities:  Brampton, Oshawa, Oakville, Alliston, Woodstock, Cambridge and Ingersoll. More than 80% of these cars are exported and the automotive sector still remains the top manufacturing sector in all of Canada, accounting for a full 12% of the Canadian GDP and 24% of economic trade.

Since the economic downturn, the “Made in Canada” movement has been gaining more interest as people realize the importance of sustaining our local economy. Naturally, there are many viable reasons why businesses develop and manufacture products overseas, but most Canadians are surprised to discover that they have a number of options when it comes to buying or leasing a car in Ontario and the rest of Canada that has helped to employ locals as part of the manufacturing process.

Because Somerville Auto has developed longstanding relationships will Canadian car manufacturers for the better part of a century, we are able to ensure that we can get you the best value possible. It’s also a bit of an added bonus to know that your new vehicle, whether leased or bought, was made on Canadian soil.
